ENVIGOR CE520 Compact DHW Plate Loading Kit
The ENVIGOR CE520 Compact Plate Loading Kit is a fully assembled, insulated and pressure-tested solution designed to upgrade an existing direct or indirect hot water cylinder for use with heat pump systems up to 12kW, without the need to replace the cylinder.
Instead of relying on the existing cylinder coil alone, the CE520 uses a high-efficiency brazed plate heat exchanger to transfer heat from the primary heating circuit into the domestic hot water circuit. This allows an existing cylinder to be upgraded into a higher-performance, heat-pump-ready hot water solution.
Designed to save installation time on site, the complete hydraulic assembly arrives pre-built within a compact insulated enclosure, providing a neat and practical alternative to building a plate loading arrangement from individual components.
Available With or Without Differential Temperature Control
The CE520 is available either with or without the ENVIGOR Differential Temperature Controller, allowing the control arrangement to be selected to suit the installation.
The differential controller monitors the temperature of the plate heat exchanger and the hot water cylinder and controls when the circulation pump is allowed to operate.
In a typical setup, the pump starts when the plate heat exchanger is approximately 5°C hotter than the cylinder and stops as the temperatures equalise. This helps prevent the circulation pump from running when there is no useful heat available and avoids stored heat within the cylinder being transferred back towards the primary heat source.
When the ENVIGOR Differential Temperature Controller is selected, the Plate Loading Kit does not require a separate demand signal from the heat source to operate. The controller independently monitors the plate heat exchanger and cylinder temperatures and starts or stops the circulation pump according to the temperature differential and minimum temperature settings.
The ENVIGOR Differential Temperature Controller is supplied with two temperature sensors, allowing the controller to monitor the plate heat exchanger and hot water cylinder temperatures.
Important: If the ENVIGOR Differential Temperature Controller is not selected, the installation must incorporate a suitable alternative method of controlling the Plate Loading Kit circulation pump.
What's Included
The CE520 incorporates a SWEP E5THx20 brazed plate heat exchanger together with a Wilo Star-Z NOVA A circulation pump with integrated non-return valve.
The assembly also includes isolation valves, service valves, a manual air vent, drain-off valve and wall mounting bracket, all housed within a thermally insulated enclosure.
Where the DT Controller - Yes option is selected, the ENVIGOR Differential Temperature Controller and two temperature sensors are also supplied.

How the Plate Loading Kit Works
The plate heat exchanger transfers energy from the primary heating circuit to the domestic hot water circuit without allowing the two fluids to mix.
When heat is available from the heat source, water from the colder part of the cylinder is circulated through the plate heat exchanger, heated, and returned to the upper section of the cylinder. This provides rapid and efficient reheating while maintaining complete separation between the primary heating water and the domestic hot water.
The CE520 can be used with a range of cylinder arrangements, including direct cylinders, indirect single-coil cylinders, indirect twin-coil cylinders and systems incorporating secondary circulation, subject to the correct system design and installation.
Why Use the Differential Temperature Controller?
Correct control of the circulation pump is important to ensure heat is transferred in the right direction.
The ENVIGOR controller compares the temperature of the plate heat exchanger with the temperature of the hot water cylinder using the two supplied sensors. The pump is only allowed to operate when useful heat is available from the primary side.
This helps to:
- Prevent unnecessary circulation pump operation
- Reduce the risk of heat being transferred back out of the cylinder
- Automatically control plate loading according to available temperature
- Remove the need for a separate heat-source demand signal when using the ENVIGOR control arrangement
Compact, Installer-Friendly Design
The insulated enclosure measures approximately 424mm × 410mm × 240mm with an empty weight of approximately 7.75kg.
The kit should be installed as close to the hot water cylinder as practicable to minimise heat loss and pipework resistance. All installation, commissioning and servicing work should be carried out by suitably qualified and competent engineers in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and applicable regulations.

Technical Performance
The table below shows the approximate pressure drop across the plate heat exchanger at varying heat duties.
| Duty (kW) | Pressure Drop - Side 1 (kPa) | Pressure Drop - Side 2 (kPa) |
| 4 | 3.09 | 0.050 |
| 6 | 6.69 | 0.107 |
| 8 | 11.58 | 0.186 |
| 10 | 17.77 | 0.286 |
| 12 | 25.29 | 0.406 |
Performance and pressure-drop figures are provided as a guide and are based on the operating conditions detailed in the ENVIGOR CE520 Installation Manual. Actual performance will depend on system design, flow conditions and operating temperatures.
Choosing the Controller Option
Select "Yes" if you require the CE520 supplied with the ENVIGOR Differential Temperature Controller and two temperature sensors.
Select "No" if a suitable alternative control arrangement is already being provided as part of the installation.
